  • Jerry and Margaret HodgeJerry and Margaret Hodge Donate $100,000 to Southwestern Pharmacy

    Jerry and Margaret Hodge of Amarillo, Texas have given a $100,000 check to the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation. Jerry Hodge is a 1965 graduate of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy. He received the SWOSU Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1979.

  • Remember, Rekindle, Reconnect! The Southwestern College of Pharmacy and the Pharmacy Alumni Association will be hosting pharmacy alumni dinners for all Southwestern College/School of Pharmacy alumni and their guests. We have the following dates and locations planned for Spring 2006. Your RSVP is not required, but will be appreciated (580-774-7197).

  • Wycoff Gives $10,000 to SWOSU College of Pharmacy – Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation has received a $10,000 gift from former Weatherford resident Smith Wycoff, who now lives in Eufaula.

    Patti Harper, Alumni and Development Officer for the College of Pharmacy, said the gift is part of the College of Pharmacy FOCUS fundraising campaign.

    Wycoff operated a pharmacy in Weatherford for many years until he retired. He was named the Southwestern College of Pharmacy Outstanding Alumnus in 1996. He is a member of the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation Board of Directors and lifetime member of the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Association.

    Wycoff, a 1967 graduate of SWOSU, has three children and four grandchildren. He is enjoying traveling and boating during his retirement years. Wycoff said he wanted to contribute to Southwestern Pharmacy, because he is thankful for what the College of Pharmacy did to prepare him for a career in pharmacy.

  • Pharmacy Law Conference (Oklahoma Pharmacy Law and Regulation Review – 2006) will be held on May 7, 2006 at the Clarion Meridian Convention Center in Oklahoma City on I-40, South on Meridian and West on Enterprise Way.   • The Southwestern College of Pharmacy honored 50-year pharmacy graduates with a recognition ceremony on September 24, 2005, in conjunction with SWOSU Homecoming.

Bernhardt (’48), Midwest City; Don Turner (’55), Fairland; Donald Scott (’52), Tulsa; Don Barker (’54), Edmond; James Brandenburg (’54), Tulsa; and Ralph Magill (’50), Weatherford.


    Patti Harper, Alumni and Development Officer for the SWOSU College of Pharmacy, welcomed all the alumni and friends to the program. Associate Dean Dr. Ralph read the names of the honored guests, and Dean Dr. David Bergman presented each honoree with gifts before giving the closing remarks.

    The event was sponsored by the Southwestern College of Pharmacy and the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Association.

  • Keith Clark’s (’79) daughter, Courtney, a senior at Eula High School in Texas signed a scholarship offer to play softball for Abilene Christian University.

  • Melodee Vines Ezzell (’80) retired from Merck and Co., Inc., after 23 years. She married David Ezzell on Aug. 27, 2005, and moved back to her hometown of Perryton, TX. She and David live with her daughter, Sheridan, 7, and David’s three sons.


  • Erika Conkling Evans (’98) and her husband Bryan, of Oklahoma City would like to announce the birth of their son, Jackson Dale “JD” Evans. He joins twin sisters, Emma and Elle, 2.


  • Kimberly Maywald Foster (’02) and her husband Scott of La Porte, TX, would like to announce the birth of their second daughter Rachel Elyssa Foster.


  • Larry D. Gudgel (’80) is presently serving as Lt. Colonel of the United States Air Force in England.


  • Nathan Kopper (’01) started working with KV Pharmaceuticals in St. Louis, MO as a drug information specialist in their Medical Communications Department. He formerly worked in Muncie, IN at a hospital.


  • Elaine Lust (’92) was deployed to Hurricane Katrina for two weeks serving as the pharmacist to VMAT (Veterinary Medical Assistance Team). Lust and her teammates set up the largest veterinary field hospital and pharmacy in the history of VMAT to care for 3,000+ animal patients at a make shift shelter in Gonzales, LA. The animals were rescued from New Orleans and surrounding areas. Lust is an assistant professor in the Pharmacy Practice Department at Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.


  • Marcia McSparrin Seals (’75) of Edmond, who has worked as a pharmacist and science teacher, has put her passion for helping young people to make sound food choices into a practical booklet titled “NutriMotion.”


  • Ginger Raley Pino (’05) married Jonathon Pino on November 19, 2005.


  • Larry Segars (’86) has accepted the position of Chair of the Department of Pharmacology, College of Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. This spring he is also completing the dissertation requirements for a doctorate in pharmacoepidemiology from the School of Public Health, University of North Texas Health Science Center-Fort Worth, TX. This past fall he was made a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.


  • Richard Wheeler (’84, ’03) of Oklahoma City, has been named one of Mercy Health Center’s 25 Pillars of Mercy—an award that reflects the compassionate care Mercy Foundress Catherine McCauley exemplified almost 200 year ago.

 

Faculty - April 2006 News

  • H.F. Timmons, former Southwestern College of Pharmacy Dean, was reappointed to Long Term Care Facility Advisory Board by Governor Brad Henry.

  • Dennis Thompson was the winner of the Wrestling Hall of Fame All-Star Classic Trivia Challenge. He beat out 325 entries to win many prizes including much-anticipated book The History of Collegiate Wrestling, which was signed by its author, Jay Hammond.
