- SWOSU Homecoming – Southwestern Oklahoma State University will celebrate homecoming activities on Saturday, November 1, 2008, in Weatherford, Oklahoma. More details about all of the SWOSU and College of Pharmacy homecoming activities will be coming soon. The College of Pharmacy will honor the Class of 1958 at the 50-Year Pharmacy Graduate Recognition Ceremony. Special class reunions are encouraged (40-Year, 30-Year, 25-Year, 20-Year and 10-Year). Contact the College of Pharmacy Alumni Office to for class reunion assistance. Please be sure to mark your calendar and make plans to attend SWOSU Homecoming in November.

Continuing Pharmacy Education sessions on “Federal Pharmacy Law Review”, “Women’s Health” and “Drug Interactions” were presented by Dr. Virgil Van Dusen, Dr. Tom Davis and Dr. Michael Nelson, respectively. Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

50-Year Pharmacy Graduate Recognition Ceremony – A 50-Year Pharmacy Graduate Recognition Ceremony was held at 10AM at the College of Pharmacy Open House in conjunction with SWOSU Homecoming activities on November 3, 2007. - Donations Given to Pharmacy Museum – Textbooks from pharmacy classes in the mid 60s were recently donated to the Pharmacy Museum. Judy Ryan Ward McConnell of Conway, Arkansas, also donated a unique WWII wound packet.
Judy graduated in 1966 from SWOSU pharmacy school and later completed her master’s degree in pharmacology at OU. She is currently the Pharmacist-in-Charge at Conway Regional Medical Center’s Physical Rehab Hospital.
- Jerrod Roberts (’91) of Edmond, Oklahoma received the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award at the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association Convention. This national award, sponsored by Elan Pharmaceuticals, recognizes innovative pharmacy practice resulting in improved patient care. Jerrod is owner/pharmacist for Flourish Integrative Pharmacy. He recently served as the 2007 president for the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists.
- Tom Hobza (’67, B.S.,’04, Pharm.D.) of Skiatook, Oklahoma, received the Bowl of Hygeia Award at the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association Convention. Sponsored by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, the Bowl of Hygeia recognizes pharmacists who possess outstanding records of civic leadership in their own communities.
The Bowl of Hygeia symbol derives from Greek mythology and is the most widely recognized international symbol of pharmacy. Hygeia was the daughter and assistant of Aesculapius (sometimes spelled Asklepios), the God of Medicine and Healing. Her classical symbol was a bowl containing a medicinal potion with the serpent of Wisdom (or guardianship) partaking it. This is the same serpent of Wisdom that appears on the caduceus, the staff of Aesculapius, which is the symbol of medicine.
- SWOSU Pharmacy Graduates Serve on OPhA 2007-2008 Executive Council – Numerous SWOSU College of Pharmacy graduates compose the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association 2007-2008 Executive Council. - Lori Marie Graham Allen (’05) of Odessa, Texas, announces the birth of her daughter, Avery Marie Allen, born on April 11, 2007. She weighed 6lbs 13 ounces and was 17” long.
- Steve (’05) and Halee (’07) Beasley Scott of Muskogee, Oklahoma, announce the birth of their daughter, Carlee Jalen Scott, born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 17, 2007. She weighed 8lbs and was 20” long.

- Pharmacy Students Inducted into Rho Chi - Nineteen Southwestern Oklahoma State University students in Weatherford were recently elected to the Beta Upsilon chapter of the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society.
Honorees are students in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at SWOSU. The Rho Chi Society is the national honor society in pharmacy that recognizes outstanding academic achievement. The new members were awarded pins and certificates in an initiation ceremony held on the SWOSU campus.
- CVS Scholarship Donation - CVS Corporation recently donated $5,000 to Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy to fund five $1,000 pharmacy student scholarships.

"On behalf of the students who benefit from the scholarships, we thank CVS for the generous gift”, states David Ralph, Associate Dean at SWOSU College of Pharmacy. “Our College of Pharmacy is most appreciative for the continued support of CVS with their annual scholarship donations."
Scholarship recipients are selected by the College of Pharmacy Awards Committee. Various criteria, including scholastic achievement, financial need, leadership, professionalism, service, professional standing and/or career interests, are associated with each scholarship and applied during the selection process.
The College of Pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, the accrediting agency for Colleges of Pharmacy in the United States, and is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. SWOSU College of Pharmacy continues to maintain a tradition of excellence in pharmacy education.
