- Dorothy Gourley Honored by SW College of Pharmacy – Dorothy Gourley (’67) of Ardmore was recently recognized as the Southwestern College of Pharmacy Outstanding Alumnus for 2005.
The Pharmacy Alumni Association annually presents an award for Outstanding Alumnus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy. This award is presented to an individual demonstrating exceptional support of the College of Pharmacy and outstanding personal achievements in the profession. (More)

- Rex Akers Pledges $5,000 to College of Pharmacy – Rex Akers (’67) of Fort Worth, Texas, pledged $5,000 to the Southwestern Pharmacy Foundation as part of the Southwestern FOCUS Campaign.
SWOSU College of Pharmacy Dean David Bergman said Aker’s gift is very much appreciated. The College of Pharmacy is focusing on scholarships, education and technology, pharmacy history, and endowed chairs/professorships, lectureships. - Irby Family Practice Grants Fund established by the Lowell Irby Family in Artesia, New Mexico: College of Pharmacy graduates Lowell (1955, a distinguished alumnus of the College of Pharmacy (1999); Wade (1996); and Kirk (1995). This year’s recipients are Brandon K. Barker of Weatherford, OK; Amanda A. Yow, Elk City, OK; and Dusty J. Allen, McAlester, OK.
- Joseph J. Schwemin Scholarship Fund in honor of Joe Schwemin, graduate of the College of Pharmacy (1948), an distinguished alumnus of the College of Pharmacy, and a distinguished alumnus of SWOSU (1981). This year’s recipient is Anna N. Kroener, El Reno, OK.
- Brewster Family Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Keisha and Kent Brewster, children of Bill Brewster, graduate of the College of Pharmacy (1965) and a distinguished alumnus of the College of Pharmacy (1983). This year’s recipient is Beverly D. Medcalf of Ada, OK.
- Wayne Bearden Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Wayne Bearden, a graduate of the College of Pharmacy (1974). This year’s recipient is Kayla D. Manning, Southwest City, Missouri.
- Amy Switzer Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Amy Switzer Jones, a graduate of the College of Pharmacy (2001). This year’s recipient is Andrea L. Clem of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
- Donald R. Masse Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Donald R. Masse, a graduate of the College of Pharmacy (1997). Parents of Donald, Don and Judy Masse, of Guymon, Oklahoma, attended the 2005 Southwestern College of Pharmacy Awards Convocation on Friday, April 25, 2005. This year’s recipient is Kandice D. Jeske of Yukon, Oklahoma.

- Frank G. and Ann E. Hodges Memorial Scholarship Fund established in memory of the parents of College of Pharmacy alumnus G.H. Hodges (73). This year’s recipient is Jennifer M. Ison of Cement, Oklahoma.
- Nelson (’04) and Sabrina (’04) Edgeman established the Edgeman Family Scholarship Fund. This year’s recipient is Brandon K. Barker of Weatherford, Oklahoma.
- Steve Drinnon (’93 and ’03) of Thomas, Oklahoma received the 2005 Roche Preceptor of the Year Award.

- A 10-year class reunion for the combined classes of ’94, ’95, and ’96 is being planned for SWOSU Homecoming on September 24. In addition to the SWOSU Homecoming Activities, the 10-year class is planning to have a casual lunch on the 3 rd floor of the CPP building, view the remodeling of the facilities, and visit. Additionally, a block of rooms has been reserved at the recently built Comfort Inn Hotel for the 10-year class members. Class of ’94, ’95, ’96 may contact Alan Spies or swpharmacy@swosu.edu for additional information.

- Shelly Prince was promoted to professor from associate professor at the April meeting of the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges.
- Chelsea Church was promoted to associate professor from assistant professor at the April meeting of the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges. Dr. Church also received tenure.
- College of Pharmacy Faculty beat KE in the annual KE vs Faculty basketball game. Winning trophy is proudly displayed in the Dean’s suite area. Proceeds from the game were donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Students - June 2005 News
- SWPhA Wins National Operation Diabetes Award at Annual APhA Meeting in Orlando, Florida – The Southwestern College of Pharmacy student group, Southwestern Pharmacy Association (SWPhA), implemented, managed and marketed a diabetes management and screening campaign in various Oklahoma communities and won the National Operation Diabetes Award for all their efforts. As student pharmacists and as future health care providers, the students showed how the pharmacy profession is an excellent resource in helping combat morbidity and mortality associated with diabetes. - 2005 Annual Honors and Awards Convocation and White Coat Ceremony
- Southwestern Oklahoma State University's College of Pharmacy recently held its annual awards convocation on the Weatherford campus. Scholarships and awards were presented to outstanding students in the school. (More)
- The Kappa Epsilon versus Faculty annual basketball game was held on April 25, 2005. KE lost this year’s game to the Faculty, but the Ronald McDonald House won with proceeds sent to them for their “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospital.
