  • Remember, Rekindle, Reconnect! The Southwestern College of Pharmacy and the Pharmacy Alumni Association will be hosting pharmacy alumni dinners for all Southwestern College/School of Pharmacy alumni. We have the following dates and locations planned for Spring 2005:

    • March 22, Amarillo, Western Sizzlin, 2921 I-40W (806-359-1142)
    • April 5, Fort Worth, Golden Corral, 3517 Alta mere Dr (817-377-1034)
    • April 26, Ardmore, Ryan’s Grill, 1725 Commerce Ave (580-226-8300)
    • April 30, Ponca City, Zino’s Restaurant, 200 N. Second (580-718-0100)

    In addition to the complimentary dinner at 7PM, there will be an information meeting about the College of Pharmacy, Q&A, discussion of future alumni activities, and time to visit with SW Pharmacy alumni and faculty. This is NOT a fundraising event! This is an event to Remember, Rekindle, Reconnect!

  • Dorothy Gourley of Ardmore, Oklahoma, has pledged $5,000 to the Southwestern Pharmacy Foundation as part of the Southwestern FOCUS Campaign. Dorothy said she wanted to help the SWOSU College of Pharmacy because she saw a need to provide financial assistance.

Gourley is a 1967 graduate of SWOSU. She grew up in Denver City, Texas, but has been a long-time resident of Ardmore. She and her husband, Vincent, have one son, Wade, and one daughter, Cher.

SWOSU College of Pharmacy Dean David Bergman said Gourley’s gift is very much appreciated. The College of Pharmacy is focusing on scholarships, education and technology, pharmacy history, and endowed chairs/professorships, lectureships.   • Mark Dodson (‘89) of Altus, Oklahoma, was recently quoted throughout a February 2005 issue of the Time magazine article entitled “The Cold-Pill Crackdown”.

  • David Pittman of Sulphur, Oklahoma contributed $1,000 to the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation as part of the Southwestern FOCUS Campaign. “Maybe I can help someone” says Pittman, a 1967 graduate of SWOSU. The Shawnee product was active in Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternity when he was at SWOSU. He and his wife Linda have five children and 13 grandchildren.

  • Shonda Lassiter (’99) of Moore, Oklahoma send news: “We have built a new pharmacy building across the street from our old location. We cannot wait for everyone to stop by and see us. The new building has a much larger compounding lab that is really helping to build business even further. We are looking forward to opening our Closed Door Pharmacy. We can’t wait to see everybody.”


  • Class of ’65 and combined Classes of ’94, ’95, and ’95 are each planning to hold a reunion during Southwestern Homecoming on September 24, 2005. The tentative itinerary follows:

  • Melanie Claborn was recently selected for the Zada M. Cooper Scholarship awarded by Kappa Epsilon Foundation. Melanie was among six students selected nationally for the Zada M. Cooper Scholarship Program. This is a very positive reflection of both the Southwestern College of Pharmacy and the Alpha Beta Chapter to produce such a strong candidate.

  • Officers of American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford during the 2004-05 year are Christina Hernandez, El Paso TX, treasurer; Tonja Hawley, Canadian TX, secretary; Thomas M. Massey, Wappingers Falls NY, president-elect; and Andrea Clem, Oklahoma City, president. The American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists is a national professional organization for students interested in pharmacy health systems. (More)
