Alumni and Friends

  • Judith Ann Thompson Andrews (90), Kimberly Marie Blemmel Catchings (94), Stephen Don Drinnon (93), Julie Glass Johnson (81), Mitra Salehi (94), and John M. Spoon (81) have completed the Non-Traditional Pharm.D. degree at Southwestern. Others completing the degree at Southwestern include Lori Bridges, Christine Ferguson Cox, Alice Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, and Carol A. Peek.

  • Twenty-two alumni attended the Las Vegas Continuing Education Travel Seminar in October, 2002. A total of 50 pharmacists from OK, TX, AR, KS, MO, CO, AZ, NM, NV, FL, MI, and MS participated in the Continuing Education sessions, which were held at the luxurious Venetian Hotel on the Las Vegas strip. Representing 6 decades from the class of 1956 through the class of 2001, the 22 alumni in attendance were Ricardo Acosta (01), Roland, OK; Diana Bagent (90), Pryor, OK; Don Dowling (56), Frisco, TX; Marilyn Duncan (76), Fort Smith, AR: Richard Erwin (62), Dumas, TX; Susan Gillis (96), Harrold, TX; Floy (91) and Jimmy Green (94), Pocola, OK; Wally Harris (70), Hobbs, NM; Laci (95) and Paul Lessig (94), Cement, OK; Daniel Lunsford (99), Bonanza, AR; David McGehee (01), Fayetteville, AR: George Menz (66), Shawnee, OK; Patricia Moorman (77), Durham, OK; Travis Pendley (69), Broken Arrow, OK; Jerry Pyle (72), Wichita Falls, TX; Wade Ralston (70), Woodward, OK; Gerald Skinner (63), Edmond, OK; Kelly Skrdle (01), Tulsa, OK; Kristi Spies (97), Muleshoe, TX; and Maniva Viravong (91), Moore, OK. Speakers and alumni Tom Davis (70), Edmond, OK; Alan Spies (95), Oxford, MS; and Jerry Meece (74), Gainesville, TX gave presentations on Congestive Heart Failure, Pharmacy Federal Law, and Diabetes, respectively.

  • Brent Rutledge (92), Pharm.D. named new Pharmacy Director at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. Brent was recently named the new Pharmacy Director at Uvalde Memorial Hospital in Uvalde, Texas, which is in southwest Texas. After graduating from pharmacy school, Brent worked for HEB before becoming the staff pharmacist at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. In 2000, he completed his Pharm.D. degree from the University of Arkansas Non-Traditional Pharm.D. program. After implementing a clinical pharmacy program at the hospital, he held the position of clinical pharmacist until his new position at UMH. Brent has been married to his wife, Sheri, for 10 years. They have 2 children, Garrison is 7 and McCrae is 4.

  • Kenneth Watts (94), M.D. is completing his surgical residency at Baylor College of Medicine. His wife, Amy Grubb Watts (95) is currently working at Walgreens in Alvin, TX.

  • Nina Morris (75), Pharm.D. selected as OPhA's Pharmacist in the Spotlight in Fall, 2002. (More)

  • Garold Alexander (52), Edwin Earl Brown (52), James Carpenter (51), Mildred Kelly (51), Jacqueline Long (52), Rita Russell (52) were awarded Gold Certificates by the Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy. The certificates were awarded in recognition of their 50 years of service as registered pharmacists.

  • Mark Eck (74) was appointed Lifetime Honorary Board Member of PPOk, Pharmacy Providers of Oklahoma, in appreciation for serving as a charter member and an active board member from 1985 through 2002.

  • Ellen M. Church, Fort Worth, Texas, has been selected to receive the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Association Outstanding Alumnus Award for 2002. A 1974 graduate of Southwestern College of Pharmacy, Ellen has been very active in professional organizations and extremely supportive of the College of Pharmacy. In 1999, Ellen was instrumental in establishing in the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation the Tarrant County Pharmaceutical Asociation Scholarship Fund (Fort Worth). The creation of this perpetual scholarship fund will forever assist students during their practice rotations. (More)

  • Dr. H. David Bergman has a long list of publications that have appeared in professional and scientific journals, and the Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy dean has reached his 275th publication. (More)

  • Southwestern Oklahoma State University Assistant Professor Dr. Carroll Ramos and Professor Dr. Mark Gales were named Teachers of the Year during the 2001-2002 academic year in the SWOSU College of Pharmacy. (More)

  • Dr. W. Steven Pray joins the list of Bernhardt Academic Excellence Award winners at SWOSU. (More)

Students

  • The Southwestern Pharmaceutical Association (SWPhA) hosted the American Pharmaceutical Association/Acadamy of Students of Pharmacy meeting November 8-10. Around 200 pharmacy students from six states attended the regional meeting. (More)

  • SWOSU College of Pharmacy seniors were honored at a graduate recognition ceremony where all seniors were given College of Pharmacy pins and their Doctor of Pharmacy hoods. Various senior awards were also presented to outstanding students. (More)
