- New Faculty – Rahmat M. Talukder , R.Ph., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharmaceutics). Dr. Talukder received his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from St. Johns University. He then received his Ph.D. from Temple University. Dr. Talukder will teach biopharmaceutics and other courses in the pharmaceutics sequence.
Born in Bangladesh, Talukder is married and has two children. His hobbies and special interests are reading, traveling, and fishing. When asked why he wanted to teach at Southwestern College of Pharmacy in Weatherford, Oklahoma, Dr. Talukder replies, “Southwestern College of Pharmacy is one of the top ranking pharmacy schools in the south. In addition, the small class size offers the students an environment conducive to learning, which helps educators in achieving their goals. Also, the city of Weatherford seems to be a good place to raise a family.”
- New Faculty – Nancy T. Williams , R.Ph., Pharm.D., is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at SWOSU and Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Norman Regional Hospital.
Williams received her Pharm.D. from the University of Michigan. She is married to Daniel J. Williams, who is a supervisor in the FBI. They have one ‘very spoiled’ dog, Beebers. Hobbies and special interests for Nancy are playing tennis and golf, going to movies, traveling, and collecting mortars and pestles. She states she has mortars and pestles from all across the world. “Since family and friends know that I collect them, they try to bring me back one from their travels.” You’ll also find her cheering on her alma mater, The University of Michigan.
Dr. Williams previously taught at The University of Louisiana at Monroe (OLM) for 6 ½ years; then moved to the Baltimore area, where she worked for a hospital. Williams says, “I missed teaching, so I got adjunct status at a local pharmacy school there, but it wasn’t the same as teaching full-time at a university. When I found out that we’d be moving back south, I knew that I wanted to return to academia. SWOSU was a great fit for me because it emphasized teaching.”
Dr. Williams will precept pharmacy students in an adult medicine rotation at Norman Regional Hospital. Additionally, she will teach in two team-taught courses: Concepts of Pharmacotherapy and Pharmaceutical Care Lab V. Her other duties for SWOSU COP will be faculty co-sponsor for the student chapter of ASHP.
- New Faculty – Brian D. Murray (’04) of Fletcher, is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice for Southwestern College of Pharmacy. He is the Clinical Pharmacist at the Fort Sill-Lawton VA Ambulatory Care Clinic, currently managing Coumadin therapy. Dr. Murray received his Pharm.D. from Southwestern College of Pharmacy in 2004.
Murray , whose hometown is Apache, enjoys landscaping, going to Oklahoma State football and basketball games, and attending church. When asked why he wanted to be a faculty member for Southwestern College of Pharmacy, Murray says, “I want to be able to give back to the pharmacy profession and future pharmacists what I received as a student at SWOSU. This is a quickly changing profession and I want to do my part in preparing students for the future.”
- Additional New Faculty – Terri Whittington Elliott (’97) of McAlester and Dana Walker Strawn (’89) of Lawton. Both are Instructors in the Pharmacy Practice Department for Southwestern College of Pharmacy.
- New Staff – Anita Fischer is the new secretary at the Southwestern College of Pharmacy. Anita and her husband, Kevin, have five children: Carissa, Kaisa, Kaleb, Jennifer, and Jonathan. Her hobbies and special interests are reading and keeping up with her kid’s sports.
- New Alumni & Development Office at Southwestern College of Pharmacy – Patti Harper, current Director of Pharmacy Continuing Education, is the new Alumni & Development Officer for the College of Pharmacy. In addition to the Continuing Education Programs, Patti will direct the pharmacy alumni events and the pharmacy development plans for the College of Pharmacy.
Patti says, “I look forward to the new role of Alumni & Development Officer. I have met many of the alumni through the continuing education programs in the 20 years I have been with Southwestern College of Pharmacy. I look forward to a continued positive relationship with them and meeting more of the alumni in future.”
The Alumni & Development Office will continue to schedule pharmacy alumni events, such as Open House at Homecoming and dinners in and around Southwestern. Additionally, the A&D office, with the help of pharmacy alumni, will develop strategies to enhance the Pharmacy Alumni Association.
Last, but definitely not least, the A&D Office will devote major efforts to the SWOSU The Focus Campaign, specifically for the College of Pharmacy, for the continued advancement of pharmacy education for Southwestern students. This campaign is designed to address the funding priorities vital to the future of the College of Pharmacy, primarily funding scholarships, academic enrichment, and endowments for the future.
Harper states, “The unique connection the Southwestern pharmacy alumni have with each other, as well as their alma mater, is truly special. Additionally, Southwestern pharmacy alumni uphold the highest of standards of excellence in the field of pharmacy…and they expect the tradition of excellence to continue within the College of Pharmacy and its students. Therefore, I truly believe the pharmacy alumni and friends will support this campaign and help the College of Pharmacy pave the way for even greater accomplishments in the future.”
