Patti Harper, College of Pharmacy Alumni & Development officer, appreciates Phil’s generous gift and hopes many other pharmacy graduates will join him this year by making a “One Grand” contribution of their own.  “The level of participation is important to the pharmacy school’s educational resources.  Increasing participation -  both in terms of the number of alumni who contribute and the total dollars given - would ensure Southwestern Pharmacy’s position as an outstanding program and act as a catalyst for others to make their own gifts.”   Give ‘One Grand’ today!    (More About the Pharmacy Campaign)

  • John Walker recently contributed to the Southwestern Pharmacy Campaign with ‘One Grand’ gift of $1,000.  The donation is part of the pharmacy’s fundraising campaign, which includes raising money for academic program enrichment for both students and faculty, scholarships, endowments and the College of Pharmacy’s museum.

“John has played an important role with the College of Pharmacy throughout the years.  He continues to be a loyal pharmacy graduate with his belief in higher education and his commitment to helping deserving students,” states Dr. David Bergman, Dean of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1971, John Walker has not only been dedicated to excellence in pharmacy, but also a devoted father, husband and U.S. Naval Officer, among many other titles.  He has still managed to make time to be a very active and supportive member of the Pharmacy Alumni Association, recently participating in the Pharmacy Alumni Lecture Series (PALS) on campus.

Walker attended SWOSU after graduating from Tipton High School in 1962.  His education was interrupted when he felt the call to duty and joined the U.S. Navy to help with the Vietnam War effort and spent 13 months there.

He returned to SWOSU in the summer of 1970 upon separation of active duty.  Walker graduated in December 1971, and began working in retail pharmacy in Tulsa, later moving to Woodward.  In 1976, he began a commission in the Medical Service Corp, United States Navy as a pharmacy officer.  Walker went on to serve an eight-year overseas tour with his family.

Walker and his family then moved to Amarillo where he was hired by High Plains Baptist Hospital as a hospital pharmacist and later a specialty pharmacist.  Walker worked for almost 10 years developing and expanding hospital services.  Walker is currently employed as a consultant pharmacist with SunScript Pharmacy Corporation in Amarillo.

Walker and his wife Sandra, also a SWOSU graduate, have been married for almost 38 years and have one son, one daughter, four granddaughters and one grandson.

Receiving John Walker’s gift is Dr. David Bergman, SWOSU College of Pharmacy Dean, and Patti Harper, Pharmacy Alumni & Development Officer.
