About the Southwestern Pharmacy Campaign
Together, Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy and the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation have begun the most ambitious campaign in its history with a goal of raising $1 million to support funding priorities deemed critical to the successful advancement of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy. Specifically, the campaign will assist in funding scholarships, academic enrichment and endowments for the future.
The SWOSU College of Pharmacy was founded in 1939 with the mission to educate highly competent pharmacists. The College of Pharmacy achieves its mission through excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, and service to the state and pharmacy profession.
In 1974, the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation was incorporated for the purpose of financially supporting the educational endeavors of the College of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Foundation continues to be dedicated to assisting the operations of the College of Pharmacy, enriching the educational experience of its students, and providing services to the College’s alumni and friends.
“This campaign is designed to address the funding priorities vital to the future of the College of Pharmacy,” said Dr. H.F. Timmons, president of the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation. “I am asking alumni and friends, businesses and corporations to join me and the Pharmacy Foundation in paving the way for even greater accomplishments by giving to the pharmacy campaign.” Other Pharmacy Foundation board members include Greg Adams, Clinton; Shannon Brewer, Midwest City; Mark Eck, Healdton; Dorothy Gourley, Ardmore; Paul Moore, Atoka; Bryan Potter, Elk City; Smith Wycoff, Eufaula; and John Walker, Amarillo, Texas.
Throughout its long history, the College of Pharmacy faculty, staff and administration have united with alumni and friends in setting standards of excellence in the field of pharmacy education at SWOSU. “The reputation of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy is attributed to the excellent students in the PharmD program, the high-quality and dedication of our faculty, and successful and very loyal alumni who inspire others through their profession,” said H. David Bergman, dean of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy.
Today, with the continuing decline in state appropriations, donor support is fundamental to the continued tradition of excellence at the SWOSU College of Pharmacy. “In the face of such changing and challenging times, we are asking alumni, faculty, staff, administration and friends to help bridge the gap between current funding and the present and future needs of the College of Pharmacy and its students,” Bergman said. “It is the continuum of giving, one generation to the next, that makes a difference between a good pharmacy program and an outstanding pharmacy program at SWOSU.” Members of the College of Pharmacy faculty and staff have already joined the campaign by pledging their support to the pharmacy campaign. The College of Pharmacy invites its friends to support its traditions of excellence in these strategic areas: Scholarship Fund, Academic Enrichment Fund, Endowments, Southwestern Pharmacy & History Fund, or the General Unrestricted Fund.
Patti Harper, Alumni and Development Officer for the College of Pharmacy, along with Bergman, Timmons and Dr. David Ralph, Associate Dean, have spent the past year in the quiet phase of the campaign raising nearly money from donors who believe in supporting SWOSU’s extraordinary pharmacy education program. Tony Jones (Class of 1978) of Lubbock, Texas, donated because he wanted to give to something that has given so much to him. He invites others who have benefited from a Southwestern pharmacy education to express their gratitude by joining his efforts. (Why Give)
A true margin of excellence can be achieved and maintained only through private gifts from alumni and friends. Correspondence with approximately 4,200 pharmacy alumni, an exceptional group of people with a strong tradition of Southwestern Pharmacy pride, recently took place to begin the next phase of the campaign. “The unique connection the SWOSU pharmacy alumni have with each other, as well as their alma mater, is truly special,” Harper said. “The loyalty of the pharmacy alumni is unlike anything I have experienced, and it is because of that dedication that I am confident, with the financial support of our alumni and friends, we will achieve success in our pharmacy campaign.”
There has never been a more critical time to invest in the SWOSU College of Pharmacy. And there has never been a more opportune time to preserve the Southwestern Pharmacy spirit and support the Southwestern Pharmacy family. Cash gifts, Pledges, Memorial and Tribute gifts, Corporate Matching gifts, Gifts of Securities, and Planned Giving opportunities are all options that provide an exciting investment opportunity. (Ways to Give)
Together, alumni, businesses, corporations, foundations, faculty, staff, administration, students, and friends of Southwestern Pharmacy can make a difference and impact the Southwestern College of Pharmacy’s future with a gift to the Pharmacy Foundation through the Southwestern Pharmacy Campaign. With the success of a $1,000,000 campaign, the Southwestern Foundation will be able to continue to assist the College of Pharmacy in its efforts to educate pharmacy students, produce outstanding pharmacy professionals for the future, and remain one of the best pharmacy education programs in the nation…continuing the tradition of excellence.
