Goals & Objectives: The goal of this knowledge-based course is to provide each pharmacist a better understanding and working knowledge of relevant management principles and employment laws as they apply to various areas of pharmacy practice. Furthermore, this course will attempt to utilize recent case examples (including court cases) to aid the participant in appraising his/her practice setting for potential areas of improvement, and if improvement is warranted, to assist each participant in making the necessary changes. After successful completion of this course, the pharmacist should be able to: describe the role of management in pharmacy practice, regardless of practice setting; recognize the legal implications involved with interviewing, hiring, firing and conducting performance evaluations; illustrate appropriate ways of handling an employee pharmacist who makes a medication error; identify workplace pitfalls that lead to a potential discrimination lawsuit.
