Message to Alumni and Friends
from Pharmacy Alumni Association President, Alan Spies (Class of 1995)
As you may know, the Southwestern College of Pharmacy is in the midst of a $1,000,000 fundraising campaign...its first-ever major campaign. As such, I have made a commitment to give $1,000 to the campaign. I am challenging you to also give $1,000 to the College of Pharmacy. It’s ONE GRAND CHALLENGE! In addition, I am asking you to challenge your friends of the school to do the same. All you have to do is complete the attached One Grand Challenge form and send it to Southwestern Pharmacy today. Then, I am asking you to contact your pharmacy friends and challenge them.
The reason for the ONE GRAND CHALLENGE is to help reach the $1,000,000 campaign goal. There are over 4,000 living pharmacy graduates. If 1,000 of us would accept the ONE GRAND CHALLENGE this year, then together, we will have reached the campaign goal. More importantly, we will have made a GRAND difference at the SWOSU College of Pharmacy.
You can make a one-time $1,000 donation or you can commit to a pledge of $1,000 to be paid over the next 2 to 4 years. Maybe an annual donation of $250 for the next 4 years? Maybe an annual donation of $500 for two years? Your tax-deductible donation can be made with a check or with your credit card. To receive recognition for being a part of this ONE GRAND CHALLENGE, a donation of at least $1,000 is required. And don’t forget, if you work for a company that matches donations, please include the company's matching gift form with your donation.
I know many of you may wonder if such a campaign is truly necessary. Let me answer that question with a simple, "yes." As a faculty member at another school of pharmacy in Alabama, I see every day the difference a campaign like this can make. For example, pharmacy students at Samford are able to utilize all the latest technology in the classroom, such as the use of PDA's and Smart Boards. Though the quality of education at SWOSU is excellent, there is so much more that can be done, such as creating endowed chair positions to continue recruiting the finest academicians. We were all blessed to have a top-notch education during our days in pharmacy school at SWOSU. I want to challenge you to continue that great tradition.
If you have already given, I know your gift is already making a difference. If you can give more than a $1,000, it will be greatly appreciated. If you cannot give $1,000 at this time, please give to the level you are capable of giving. Gifts of any size will be welcome. Every gift will make a difference and your gift will impact the future of the Southwestern College of Pharmacy. You can designate your gift to the General Unrestricted Fund to be used where it is most needed. Or, you can choose one of the other priority areas for this campaign: Academic Enrichment Fund, Scholarship Fund, Endowments, or the Southwestern Pharmacy & History Fund.
Again, your tax-deductible donation to the Southwestern Pharmacy Alumni Foundation to support the College of Pharmacy is needed. Please give a one-time gift or make a pledge using the ONE GRAND CHALLENGE form. Your gift will be greatly appreciated...and it will make a GRAND difference.
If you have any questions about donating or about the campaign, please contact me (arspies@samford.edu; 205-335-2477) or the Pharmacy Alumni & Development Office (swpharmacy@swosu.edu or 580-774-3190). Let's make a difference and support our College of Pharmacy.
