2006 Southwestern Pharmacy Outstanding Alumnus
Since his graduation from the School of Pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1966, David Sparks has made numerous contributions to the profession of Pharmacy.

Mr. Sparks was an independent pharmacist in the Tulsa area for more than two decades. During that time, Mr. Sparks provided numerous services to his patients, including specialized dosage formulations for drugs. Mr. Sparks introduced compounding pharmacy to the hospice environment and was instrumental in establishing the Oklahoma Hospice Organization.
In 1988, his interest in specialized dosage formulations and compounding provided Mr. Sparks with a unique career path in pharmacy. At that time, Mr. Sparks moved to Texas and became CEO and, four years later, President of Professional Compounding Centers of America, known as PCCA. PCCA provides fine chemicals, equipment and devices as well as ACPE-Accredited Education and other training and consulting to enable pharmacists to compound unique dosage forms. At this time, PCCA has more than 3,500 independent pharmacist members located throughout the USA, Canada and Australia. To further support compounding pharmacists, Mr. Sparks established Eagle Analytical Services, a PCCA company that provides specialized quality control testing for compounding pharmacists.
Mr. Sparks has been very active in efforts to preserve the right of pharmacists to compound and was instrumental in obtaining passage of the FDA reform legislation that ensures that compounding pharmacists are able to maintain their vital role and preserve the important patient, physician and pharmacist relationships.
Mr. Sparks is a member of Rho Chi, Kappa Psi, APhA, TPA, a Fellow of the American College of Apothecaries, and is the founding director of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists. Mr. Sparks is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Houston and in 1999 was named by American Druggist as one of the “50 Most Influential People in Pharmacy”.
Mr. Sparks is married to Kay Sparks, who is also a Distinguished Alumnus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a graduate of the School of Pharmacy. David and Kay generously provide a Southwestern Pharmacy scholarship for professional pharmacy students who have completed Pharmaceutics II and Pharmaceutical Care Lab I and have a strong interest in compounding.
